No classic style fantasy game is complete without a princess, and in Lords and Legends we have the feisty Princess Sophia (named after my feisty and stubborn daughter!). Back when Dunc and I first created some of these characters for the initial Trans Atlantis Games – two Thin Coats Kickstarter in 2021, we knew we wanted to put a fun spin on the classic princess trope so we came up with Princess Sophia Wulf, next in line to rule Luminaria. We thought it would be fun to buck the trend and not have her in armour but in a ‘Disneyesque’ dress wielding a really powerful and unwieldy looking magical sword that only she can control. You see, the sword, known as the Shard, contains the soul of her betrothed, the famous swordsman and adventurer Hykon, who was slain whilst on one of his adventures.

As you can see in the initial concept we had commissioned way back in 2021, we tried to capture her character, and Byrno, our artist friend, did a fantastic job with the original idea. However, when we decided to go ahead with Death Reaper Games back in early 2025, there were a few small tweaks we wanted to make, and besides the pose, you can see the slight differences from the 3D renders below.

Once we were happy with the new pose, which by the way was a fun challenge for the tooling engineers to get that flowing skirt right on the plastic sprue, we got our studio painter Natalie, to paint her up to match the war band. This is always tricky as Princess Sophia comes from Cyredon, Luminaria’s capital to the west, and not Ravenweald, where the brave Sir Cotaes hails from. So Natalie used the blues and purples of Sir Coate’s, well, two thin cloaks, and incorporated them into her dress. And then there is the Shard, her magical sword. Well, I think Natalie did a superb job on the blade and really captured what we were going for with this character. We think that you guys are going to really enjoy painting this miniature.

Now when it comes to the tabletop, she is the very definition of a glass cannon! She is agile and quick, packs a powerful punch with the Shard which also offers a ranged attack. But be careful, she is obviously lightly armoured and could be in real trouble if she gets cornered or her back to the wall! This is a character you want to play with strategically and use her on the flanks to take out enemy heroes and legends behind the line or to grab objectives for a sneaky few points.

Princess Sophia is one of my personal favourite miniatures as she is a lot of fun to paint, packs a really powerful punch but must be used wisely on the tabletop.
Cheers!
